Getting Listed with Google
To get your site listed in Google,
enter the URL of your home page and a description for your
site here:
http://www.google.com/addurl.html.
Google sends out bots (Freshbot
and Deep Crawl) during the month. Freshbot crawls the
web looking for new and modified sites. After
freshbot has found your site, googlebot is set to spyder your
site later in the month. Freshbot may or may not come
back. Your site will be in and out of Google's listings
for approximately up to two months, depending on when
your site was published. Googlebot is then set to spyder
your site later in the month.
When your site is listed as a
Fresh update, there is no guarantee that the pages will be
listed in Google's index at the next update.
You can check your access logs to
see if Google has visited your site.

Google Dance
Once a month, Google updates its
entire index of sites. This is known as the Google Dance
and occurs once a month (generally from the 23rd - 30th).
Page ranks are recalculated approximately 40 times. Google
updates its' large indexes on more than
10,000 servers from
coast to coast. All of these indexes cannot be updated at
once, therefore it takes time to update one server after
another. Currently, these servers are placed in seven
different data centers. When a query is made during the Google Dance, the results may come from a data center that has
not received the updated index. The
"Google Dance" Tool will
allow you to view search results from three different servers
simultaneously. Data is migrated from www2 and www3 into the
main database over a period of 2-6 days. You can also
sign up to receive an alert when the Google Dance begins.

Page Rank
The
Google Toolbar

your web pages. Your rank is based on a number of
things. Basically, your page rank is increased by having
more inbound links from other higher ranked pages. This
